Dawn over The Lake District

August 1, 2016 @ 5:30 am - 6:30 am

This is the truly historic day when finally, 65 years after The Lake District National Park was designated and founded, the boundary will be extended to include an additional 27 square miles (3%) of magnificent landscape, left outside in 1951 because the original boundary merely followed local administrative boundaries!
The Yorkshire Dales National Park will today also be extended by almost 25%, so that the two Parks will almost join, except for a narrow corridor occupied by the M6 motorway.
Come and witness this major achievement at ‘The Mushroom’ viewing point on Scout Scar, off Underbarrow Road, west of Kendal.
The Friends of The Lake District are organising bacon butties and will be on site from 04.30 hrs. If you are coming, click on the link and register with them so they can organise enough food!
Grid Ref. SD 487 919.
